Following Tram’s diary to Quang Ngai |

In fact, the Theo Dong Nhat Ky (Following A Diary) tour leads you around the province to many places, where Tram lived and treated soldiers. The tour also includes some charity work, presenting gifts for Agent Orange child victims. Building on the emotion from Tram’s diary, which has turned out to be one of the most remarkable social and political works this year, Saigontourist Travel Service Co. has worked with Quang Ngai to open the tour in the province. Highlights of the Theo Dong Nhat Ky tour are stops in Duc Pho District, including at Pho Cuong Infirmary, where Tram worked, at Dau Mountain and at Liet Son Lake. Among the other sights are the Son My-My Lai remnants zone, Thien An Mountain, the Chinese-style Ong Pagoda, Co Luy Fishing Village and My Khe Beach. Thien An Mountain, one of the province’s symbols besides Tra Khuc River, is a high hill, whose peak is wide and flat. A path leads up around the mountain. Thien An Pagoda shaded by big ancient trees sits on the mountain’s eastern side. From Thien An, visitors can also see Co Luy in the east and Long Dau Mountain in the northwest. Co Luy Fishing Village in Tinh Khe Commune in Son Tinh District has many coconut trees and both sea and river access. Behind the village is Kinh River, which was the base of the Tinh Khe guerilla unit who fought against U.S. forces. Because it is rather isolated, Co Luy is also called “Lonely Village.” My Khe Beach, a 10km stretch of white sand, belongs to the village. French compared the beach to their lovely shoreline in southern France, and American pilots and journalists said this was one of the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam. Further attractions in Quang Ngai include Ma Vuong Hills, where archeologists discovered remnants of the Sa Huynh Culture, which dates back thousands of years, and the stilt houses, terraced paddy fields and life style of the Ca Dong people. In addition, following Tram’s diary notes, tourists will meet one of Tram’s fellow combatants, Ta Thi Ninh, to understand more about the young martyr. Besides visiting the places mentioned in Tram’s diary, tourists will picnic at the more than 40m high Trang Waterfall, 30km from Quang Ngai City, or meet Sa Huynh border-guard soldiers. The tour costs VND 1.3 million by train for four days and VND 1.2 million per person by car for five days. Saigontourist plans to launch further tours in the future to explore the province.
